It's march. Can I be a regular user, now, instead of this pea-of-the-month thing, please?

Thanks.

Doesn't that something-of-the-month thing show how supportive you are? Why don't you want to have it? :)

I wish I could hide my post count, too....

I have asked a few times....

Often, a technical coversation just drops dead after I input my two cents.... It doesn't make my solution to correct one.

It seems far to many users equate high post count=guru

Hmmm, sounds perhaps like a new signature in the making. :)
BTW, "Iced Blended Vanilla Crème Ubuntu" doesn't become you.

I tried using a signature for about two weeks and It wasn't for me...

We are not removing post counts.. But maybe we'll add a new monthly club, something more fitting :)

But... what's so bad about showing others how helpful you are?

On a forum, if you think someone gives the wrong advice, or if you think you have a better way of doing something, you are supposed to say it.

It's a forum; a public place. There are many different ways to skin a cat - the way I go about doing something may not be the best way for you (if it even works at all). The more people who jump into a topic, the better.

For a few years, I used to post anonymously on DebianHelp and it was great. On these forums, anonymous posting is not available, so we use our aliases. I have noticed fewer people adding their thoughts to some threads that I contribute to. This was not so when I had a lesser postcount.

At first, I attibuted it to the lull in between releases (fewer people start using the distro after about three months post release so there is less forum traffic.) I have seen three lulls come and go and that ain't the problem.

I think people see a high postcount and don't want to offend or take the risk of feeling stupid.

So, to answer your question, I have nothing against it per se, except I beleive it is getting in the way of some users getting better help. I may be wrong. It would just be nice to have the option to not display a postcount, if the user so desires.

I think people see a high postcount and don't want to offend or take the risk of feeling stupid.I disagree, just because you have a high postcount and I want to help you feel like "one of the guys" again. :)

(Okay, that was either really funny or really dumb...gimmie a break, I have two sick kids and haven't slept more than 6 hours in 3 days...everyone's asleep at the moment, but I'm sure the next round of comforting and medicating will begin soon.)

AZZ I am not sure that I agree with your reasons, they are interesting though. It could be that your posts answer the question and the need for further posting on a topic is not needed.Maybe you should post in some of the Community chat threads more often some of those definately need stopping;)

Anyway the Boss said the counts are to stay so i guess thats it. And I agree with them staying .

Linux was born out of a meritocracy and has been one for a long time. Why should Ubuntu Forums be any different? :p

I'm not asking for everyone's postcount to be hidden. Just for those who want.
