I just finished installing ubuntu for the first time on my thinkpad t42. I just wanted to say I am very impressed with this distro. I didnt install a ton of apps I didnt want. And my wireless card that took me a whole weekend to configure in fedora core 3 worked right "out of the box". Its definately my new favorite.

Just wondering what wireless card you have. I just bought a new one and it's completely worthless.

For Linux I think a Microsoft card works best:

Out of the box!

I have a linksys wireless card v.3 (I know...the worst card on the market some say). But it worked without a hitch in Ubuntu.

I've got the AT&T 6700G with an atheros chipset. Working flawlessly with the madwifi modules that I think are from the restricted repository. I see this one on sale a lot at CompUSA.

This thread gives me all warm fuzzy's. I have just purchased a new home and I didn't fancy crawling under the home to redo the cat 5 for a home network .
So I am going wireless , I am pleased that it seams folks have no issues ,well no major ones anyway

the trick is to do some research before you buy the equipment. I traded in my Linksys v4 card for a v3 one (got on ebay) because the v4 requires ndiswrapper to work.....I hate hacks like that.

How did you trade it in?
I too bought a version 4 and I don't see a reason to do all the hacking if I can just get a card thats compatable.

Sold what I had on ebay.....used the money to buy a new card from ebay.
This is also a common way to fix ATI drivers.
