I have been using a persistent USB drive to familiarize myself with Ubuntu (running 9.1) over the last month. Booting from the USB drive works well on two different laptops and most of the features seem to operate as expected. However, when I try to run synaptic or software center from the pull down menus, they start and then disappear. I have tried starting them from a terminal and get the message "bus error (core dumped)" in each case.

- should synaptic or software-center run from a persistent USB?

- if so, what changes would allow them to run?

Thanks.

Problem solved by re-doing USB creation with larger persistent file area. Now all Ubuntu apps seem to be working.
