Web Server/hosting! advice

Ok simple question really... I have a web server up and running! Right now i only using it for testing sites before placing them on the internet for my self and clients. HOWEVER. I have been really wanting to upgrade my hosting options and I seem to only find limitations to Commercial hosting options. SOOO i want to hear peoples advice/recommendations/experiences with either personal web server or commercial! thanks

2nd Q: my server has to be routed to a different port other than 80 because my ISP blocks it... however i know how to do that but my concern was that does this make me less visible to search engines?

I would recommend purchasing a VPS.
