View Full Version : [ubuntu] Best TV backend/frontend software

I've looked around a bit which one of the many choices to try, but it is difficult to make up my mind. I'm running on Dell Dimension E521 and have AverTV DB T card. Model details:

[ 7.855866] dvb-usb: found a 'AVerMedia AverTV DVB-T USB 2.0 (A800)' in warm state.
[ 7.855908] dvb-usb: will pass the complete MPEG2 transport stream to the software demuxer.
[ 7.856335] DVB: registering new adapter (AVerMedia AverTV DVB-T USB 2.0 (A800))
[ 7.858745] dvb-usb: no frontend was attached by 'AVerMedia AverTV DVB-T USB 2.0 (A800)'
[ 7.858989] input: IR-receiver inside an USB DVB receiver as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0b.1/usb1/1-6/input/input7
[ 7.859017] dvb-usb: schedule remote query interval to 150 msecs.
[ 7.859020] dvb-usb: AVerMedia AverTV DVB-T USB 2.0 (A800) successfully initialized and connected.
[ 7.859043] usbcore: registered new interface driver dvb_usb_a800

I have two remotes: one came with the TV card and the other one with the MS Windows. I want to get at least one of the remote controllers to work, but noticed many have troubles with them.

It sounds like MythTV is favoured by many, but it sounds complicated and maybe an overkill. VLC?

The channel configurations even on digital TV sounds like a pain on Linux TV software compared to Windows. Unfortunately, the channel setup do chainge from time to time. (I'm located in the UK, so it is Freeview.)

Any opinions and experiences appreciated...
