That icon is very nice, but to me it's just the ubuntu circle inside a shiny sphere, no-one would really associate it with software installation, unless they've seen the orginal CNR icon, and even then its a bit of a stretch. (the linspire one has someone running).

definately gets an A++ for lickability though. :D

Yes I love it.

I love the way it shows ubuntu is emprisoned in a glass prison.

I oppose to this CNR thingy unless it's labeled as a 3rd party project. Your logo is so good, I wish it was for something else...

I think a little running man is a very good idea, but i must say this logo is nicely done :)

The logo is awesome, although I will admit I'm not a fan of the font chosen for the text...(well, maybe it's not so much the font choice as the very bland looking "CNR" above the stylized "Ubuntu")

Hi.
This is the first time I write in this forum even when I've come here hundreds of times to look for answers (hopefully found'em all without the need to post :D).

As a Linspire and Ubuntu user, I've followed this threat since last night and I've hardly have slept at all.

Only 2 things:

1. What a GRAET logo.

Sincerely

Luis C. Suárez

Oh, I'm sorry, ...

2. I really hope we all Ubuntu users, can click (in my case) to this logo, or fully delete it (in someone else's case).

CHOICES and FREEDOM

Sirin, Your pic is really starting to weird me out... ...QUIT STARING AT ME!!! that is a nice logo but I think it is to close to the Ubuntu logo.

Seeing it again, i think you should change the font of Ubuntu to that of the top left corner of this forum. It just looks nicer to me :)

That's not a good logo. There's no contrast between the background and the Ubuntu logo. Also, by using that shiny button (background) you use shape as a form of distinction. It's just a round blurb.

I don't want the CNR and ubuntu logo to mess with each other!

Keep them separate, CNR should be just another app on ubuntu..

The logo is nice :) and i agree that maybe it should have some sort of action to it, like (when in use) the Ubuntu symbol rotates, or The "Heads" of the Ubuntu people flash in a rotating sequence, or instead of a "little man" running inside the logo why not a "little dog" running inside the logo? After all what your doing with CNR is "fetching" applications. :p  The "little dog" could run inside the Ubuntu symbol and make it rotate.

Few things I'd like to add to the discussion:

1) As theturner said, there isn't enough contrast between the ubuntu logo and the sphere's colour.

2) I strongly disagree with using the official ubuntu logo in any shape or form in the CNR logo... it's not an official service, merely another app offered by the folks at Linspire. CNR should have one single recognisable logo, no matter what distro your on. Saying otherwise is like saying that Gedit (or any other generic app) should have an 'ubuntufied' logo... doing so isn't a good idea. Basically what engla said.

3) If you wanna contribute some icons, help out with the Tango Project or any other theme (maybe start your own?) or even new apps or websites... when I first started getting into graphic design stuff a year or two ago, the 'glass orb' was on of my favourite things to do, simply because it's so easy to do well... heck I even started my own icon theme using pretty much only glass orbs with logos inside. I quickly scrapped that idea. Hope to see you contributing some graphics to other projects around here (the open source world in general) as you're clearly enthusiastic. Fair play.

If I wanted to make some icons, then I would. I was just making something that you guys would probaly like. Now that you guys don't and are about to start a flame war, I would like to request this thread locked by a mod, and I will delete these images off the web, and no one else will ever see them again or at all.

Wow... never expected you to take constructive critisism like that. I also didn't detect any signs of an upcoming 'flame-war'. Your suggestion for an icon was cool, just because it's not needed/wanted doesn't mean we're attacking you or your ability personally.

My point 3, suggesting you to contribute some work to the Tango Project was actually a complement if anything, as I can clearly see you have the skill to do some nice work and help out... I think you simply got the wrong 'tone' from it, which I didn't intend at all. Fact is I do like your work and clearly the others did as well, so I was merely recommending you some projects where youre help would be more appreciated and needed.

In any case, sorry that you took the suggestions so harshly, there was nothing bad intended while writing them. I'd also like to suggest that a mod doesn't delete this thread... if every time someone didn't like the threads direction and the mods deleted it for them, these forums would be pretty much useless. In any case Sirin, hopefully you'll keep coming at us with more artwork as it's an area for which contributions are ALWAYS appreciated, even if they're not taken into upstream Gnome and used by default ;)

[edit] Just noticed that you deleted the images from the first post... why? Now people can't see your work or comment on it... The only way you're ever going to improve, even though you are clearly not too shabby (not that people can see now since you deleted the images), is by taking constructive critisism and using it productively and not taking it as a personal attack.

logos deleted? giving up on the thing just like that?

thats kinda lame... [-(

suggestions arent so much criticisms, instead theyre just ideas being shared, nothing to get defensive about. :-k

i thought the designs were neat, but oh well...

Sirin, please post the icons again. Use the critisism to something positive that can evolve your icons and skills. Critisism can be very helpful to make your stuff better or pointing out somehing you might have missed, don't take it personal :)

and just ignore those posts who oppose the free choice. (which i'll remind people don't belong to this thread, thank you).

Artificial Intelligence... could you please reference one of those posts which 'oppose the free choice'. I couldn't find any that opposed people having the free choice to use his icon or any other... maybe you were talking about those who are strongly opposed to CNR being available on Ubuntu at all? If that's the case then I agree with you, we should have the free choice to use CNR or not as we see fit.

It was just a general warning for those who might find the oppotunity to start the heated discussion which we had in community forum and continue it here. sorry if it could be misunderstood.

SIREN, **please** repost the original logo it was beutifull in it's own right, it's just that we should use it for Ubuntu.

Please bring it back so we can decide where to use it.

this thread is well over a year old...it would be a miracle if Sirin ever sees it again. And if he does he probably doesn't have it anymore.

And if he sees it AND has it, I'll quietly sit down and pick up the scattered shards of my dignity. :)
