View Full Version : Firefox Fonts

I'm running ubuntu on a desktop and love it. My laptop is a Powerbook running OSX. On both machines I use Firefox. What I notice is that the fonts on Firefox on my Mac are gorgeous, whereas on the ubuntu box they pretty much look like the cat's breakfast. Anybody have any tips on how to get the browser fonts looking good in ubuntu?

You need to install the Microsoft TrueType Core Fonts package. You can do this with Synaptic Package Manager by searching for msttcorefonts, or you can do it via the command line:

sudo apt-get install msttcorefonts

This package installs these fonts onto your Ubuntu system:

Andale Mono
Arial Black
Arial (Bold, Italic, Bold Italic)
Comic Sans MS (Bold)
Courier New (Bold, Italic, Bold Italic)
Georgia (Bold, Italic, Bold Italic)
Times New Roman (Bold, Italic, Bold Italic)
Trebuchet (Bold, Italic, Bold Italic)
Verdana (Bold, Italic, Bold Italic)

Thanks. I'm off in another city right now, without my ubuntu box, so I'll give it a shot when I get back home.
