I have a Dell Dimension 2400 I got at a yard sale. Has the typical 512MB Ram, 80GB Hard Drive, 2.4GHz Celeron and the integrated Intel video and audio. I decided to put Ubuntu 9.10. However I got a Kernal Panic while loading the live CD. It gets to the white flashing Ubuntu Loco. It freezes. The lights on the keyboard flash and it complains of a kernel panic. Any help please.

Try the Alternate CD

Already tried the text based install and it freezes during partitioning. Same as the Live CD after I burnt a new .iso disc.

Oh did I mention I already have Windows XP Home SP3 on computer. I'm planning on doing a Dual-Boot scenario with the 80GB Hard Drive. 20GB goes to XP and 60GB goes to Ubuntu.

Boot into XP,disable the pagefile, defrag a couple of times, and use the windows partitioner to create a partition,to which you can try to install Ubuntu.Good luck.I have Ubuntu installed with xp on a 40Gb HD.

Did you "Check the CD for defects" from the initial menu before attempting to install?
