I have a 9.10 version of Ubuntu loaded, I had no log in problems until the latest upgrades to the system tonight ( 1-13-10 ). Now when I try to log in, ( I am the only user ), it appears that Ubuntu is trying to load, but then the screen goes black for a second and the log in appears again. I have tried rebooting several times, however the same problem exists, each time it comes back to the log in screen. I updated another Ubuntu 9.1 in the house tonight also and do not have the same problem. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Try to do a console login.

press ctrl+alt+f1 (at the login screen), and then try logging in there.

If that proves to be successful, ( I'm at work right now ), how would I then launch the gnome gui from the command line? Thanks again for the information.
