I would appreciate it if someone could explain to me what a torrent is.
what is the advantage of using it to download? I googled it, but the meaning escapes me. I want to eventually created a flash drive that I can boot Ubuntu 9.10 off. In addition, I would like to be able to use the flash drive to install Ubuntu into a laptop that has no optical drive.

Thanks

See BitTorrent optimization and troubleshooting guide (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1259923). It explains how it works, among other things.
