View Full Version : [ubuntu] Reduced resolution on Toshiba laptop displays; Ubuntu 9.10

I installed Ubuntu 9.10 on my Toshiba Equium A210-171. All very smooth and easy -- except that I am not offered such high resolution on the laptop or external monitor as I was under Windows Vista. With Vista, I would get 1280x800 on the laptop, and 1280x1024 on the external monitor. Now, the maximums are 1280x720 and 1024x768 on the external.
The video card is ATI RS690M [Radeon X1200 Series].
Reading around, I thought this suggested that I needed to install a better driver, but
Administration > Hardware Drivers
returns
'No proprietary drivers are in use on this system'
-- and the Ubuntu 9.10 documentation and community documentation strongly suggests that there are no better drivers than that installed.
Can somebody quickly disconfuse me, please?
