Hi everyone,

I'm a nursing student about to start A&P 2. I just switched to Ubuntu over the break, and now every Windows PC I use seems to crawl. I'm ruined.

Anyway, I'm completely new both to Ubuntu and to computerized molecular models. What I'd like to do is view 3D models of complex proteins, like hemoglobin.

I installed Garlic, but I'm a little lost as to how it's supposed to work. I'm not a bit command-line person.

Can anyone suggest a way of going about this?

Thanks,

Rimshot

Hi,
I had a look for a tutorial on garlic for you http://www.ccp14.ac.uk/ccp/web-mirrors/garlic/garlic/tutorial/index.html
If you want to have a look at Avogrado as it seems pretty good and you can zoom in and out and rotate with the mouse.http://avogadro.openmolecules.net/wiki/Tutorials
You can also download the molecular structure from http://www.rcsb.org/pdb/home/home.do which is quite helpful. Save as the uncompressed option (text) pdb.
Perhaps someone else will give you more hints.

Awesome!

I really like Avogardo, though it's certainly more than I need. I don't think I'll mess with Garlic.

I also found Proteopedia.org, which is excellent.

Thanks!
