I've tried looking in 'Printing' and 'Default Printers', but nothing comes up on either

Is your printer connected directly via one of the usb ports or is it a wireless printer? Which version of Ubuntu are you using? What kind of printer is it?

it's a wireless printer, I'm using UNR 9.04, and it's a HP Photosmart C4180 all-in-one

Using Ubuntu 9.10 here, but all that was required to get my C6180 up and running was going to System -> Administration -> Printing -> New -> Printer. Once the window pops up you should see Network Printer on the left. Click the arrow to fold out the menu and you should see your printer listed under that as long as your printer is on the same network as you are currently connected to. Just highlight it, click forward, and follow the prompts.
