Try installing wicd it is a good network manager witch may work for you and fix your problem
Type in terminal:
sudo apt-get install wicd

Try download wicd from here (http://sourceforge.net/projects/wicd/files/) and then transferring onto your other computer.

Hello,

This (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mount/USB#Manually%20Mounting) should help you with mounting the USB device. Please post back if you have any more trouble.
