According to various sources such as Apple Insider (http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1556) it looks like apple is releasing a new Intel Macmini tuesday, one of the things that were expected at Mac World '06 but didn't happen. I personally am very excited to here this since I have enough saved up for one and have been waiting over the past few months for it to come out. I sure hope I'm not disappointed this time like I after macworld.

P.S. I am a mac guy incase you didn't notice, linux is my second choice and one of my first choices on the server side.

I've been considering a MAC for a while now, my friend just purchased a Quad 2.5 with 8GB of RAM and 1TB of HDD space. I'd just like to have one for testing web pages and such.

Can only wait to see what the intel will do to the cost of Mac's. BTW, now that they're on an intel chip, any reason I couldn't run Mac OS X on a pc?

I like OS X and I like the iLife Suite. Apple definitely has put thought into their products and it shows.

The only reason I don't own one, is I have too many PC's and they're $$.

Yeah, umm I like Linux but sorry to say IMHO OS X is just lightyears ahead of Linux in style and usuability. I think of linux as more a geek toy and server os not as a productive main OS, sorry to say but its mostly the lack of apps and usuability of linux, although its getting better. Anyway the mac minis better come out tommorow, I have been looking forward to it since christmas, I have saved up $500 which is enough to buy one and their is also rumors of price drops on the mac mini which would be absolutely awesome.

Yeah ive never understood why Apple are so cheap with their memory, OS X for all its positives is a horrible resource hog.

Definitely something apples are a little short on...Memory.

last I checked linux is quite the memory hog if your running big DEs like KDE. Anyway I think Apple will be shipping with 512 standard which is plenty honestly. I am on a G3 with 512mb and the main bottleneck is my processor that and the computers 7 years old

Yes, linux takes quite a bit of ram.

But if all the apple iWhatever programs are as slow as iTunes, and you use them, well, good luck...

AND have my mortal enemy- an Intel Graphics Card.

Whats amazing is that its the 64 mb version of that Intel card when the version that sucks 128mb of your RAM has been around forever.

One good thing about that card (only good thing besides Core Image support?) is that is has open source drivers. So the mini can continue to be a mean little Linux box.

Still....I was thinking about buying one and seeing that completely changed my mind.

But if someone is gonna put linux on their computer, they wont pay the extra money for a mac.
