Title says it all; does the download repo detect my 64 bit machine?

Edit: title DOESN'T say it all...
I'm looking for a 64 bit version to download directly, not burn a disk if I don't have to...

On the page that sliketymo indicated, you have to make sure you download the 64-bit version. I went to the page and by default it showed me the 32-bit. I don't know if it's because it detected that my system is a 32-bit version (which is the case).

You can click on "Alternative download options, including Ubuntu installer for Windows" and it will show you the 64-bit version that you can select.

If you upgrade from a 64 bit 9.04 it should install the 64 bit karmic. At least thats how mine did.

I have 32 bit version of 9.04 now.

And what is 'Server Edition'?

And can't I download directly, instead of doing a burn?

I'm running 64-bit and it showed a 32-bit version. Also, I doubt you'd be able to change from 32 to 64-bit during the upgrade

The server edition is what it says: the edition for servers. My guess is ubuntu with very bad graphics, and very small repositaries (though not certain about the repositories yet)

BTW, the hardest thing I found about the upgrade (not slowest, though), is finding it (9.04).
Go to the thing labeled "Alternative download options", below location>64-bit.
It's gotten so much easier since 9.04

Sorry I misunderstood.I thought you were looking for the 64bit version. If you are upgrading from 64 bit,of course it will upgrade to 64bit .As stated before you can not "upgrade" from 32 to 64.A fresh install is required.I appologize .
