You know that feeling you have when you wake up. The first thing you say against yourself is: "I don't want to go to work." It's not because you hate your work, it's not because your co-workers are assholes, no. It's just that today everything will go wrong and you will end up drained at the end of the day!
Well, yesterday was such a day for me. I woke up in my regular routine but with exact that feeling. I also didn't felt so well, but knowing myself (I'm workaholic) I didn't used it as an excuse to stay home.
I go by bike to my work (usually). It's fun, you wake up in the fresh morning air of an sub-urban enviroment, hear birds, cars and people along the way. But not today. It was very cold, unpleasant weather. So I decided to take the tram. On the way to the tram stop I saw it waiting for a red light. At an early age I learned never to run to make a tram or bus (got stuck with my backpack while the doors automatically close). But since I was a bit late (if I was going to miss it) I decided to make a quick sprint. But bloody hell, it wasn't on service and it drove straight on after the lights turned green. Nice!
Like twenty minutes later I finally got to work. Two other co-workers where waiting for me (I'm was the only one that day with a key) and sipping their coffee. We went inside with a half hour to spare. So we talked, drank coffee and waited for it to become time. In the meantime my manager arrived and he went downstairs to prepare the computers.
When we got down we started to turn on the remaining demo computers and our own systems. But WTF?! We couldn't login. While calling to HQ we still had to open our shop and we realized that one co-worker still wasn't on the spot. So our systems couldn't login, a co-worker running late and the manager starting to freak out. What more can go wrong? Well... a first assault wave of customers asking about everything and nothing, seriously wanting information and we're ready to purchase stuff. So we found ourselves in an administrative hell. In the midst of the choas the missing co-worker appeared, with fury in his eyes. He got himself into an arguement with the tram staff. So with our systems acting dead, two people freaking, customers going hardcore what more could go wrong? Wel... how about the phone-line dropping dead. With all kinds of systems (including the alarm) hooked up to the phon-line also the alarm went of. Damn, Vietnam was nothing compared with this
Things got solved after hours and hours of making phone call's with HQ, the alarm company (on mobile phones) and around three o-clock we were back on routine. But damn, I wished I stayed home!
Anyone else had such worst case scenario days?
