View Full Version : [SOLVED] Battery monitor missing from Gnome panel

My apologies if this is completely daft question, however:

I have a laptop running Ubuntu Karmic (9.10) and so Gnome version 2.28-1

I have accidentally removed the battery status monitor from the top Gnome panel. Google searches recommend right-clicking, choosing "add to panel" and re-adding the battery monitor, but I simply don't have it listed as an option.

I can add an applet to the Cario-dock to show the battery, which works perfectly but this is not an ideal placement.

All the other items I could want in the panel are available including the Gnome Power Manager, but the battery status I can't get back.

Glaringly obvious answers gratefully received.

Try looking at the General tab in System > Preferences > Power Management. What is that set to ?

Well the power management general options were set to always show the icon in the notification area, however, looking back at the options in the "add to panel" list, I realised that the "Notification area" was missing, as this is where the battery status is added I wasn't seeing it.

So it's all fixed now, thanks for the tip
