I am trying to install WriteMonkey.exe but when I right click and select "Open with Wine..." nothing happens. Nothing at all. I tried double clicking it and working through the terminal. (wine /path/to/installer/file/WriteMonkey.exe)

I'm very confused. I managed to install Q10 but there's no typewriter noise for me.

Also, can you try to explain it as simply as possible? I'm a fourteen-year-old who could reprogram a Mac but has no idea what to do on Linux. Heh, thanks.

Hi & welcome to the forums,

WINE is a generic Linux add-on, within the Ubuntu forums, you can find it here --> http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=313

There is also a dedicated Wine forum over here --> http://forum.winehq.org/index.php

I'd head off to the ubuntu area 1st - they're a pretty active bunch.

Regards,

Phill.

OK, as simply as possible, stop trying to install stuff in Wine before you go to the WinHQ application compatibility site and verify that the app even installs and works.

The link is below, and in checking it, there's no reference to WriteMonkey -- meaning, no one has tested it with Wine, so it's most probably NOT going to work.

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&sTitle=Browse%20Applications&sOrderBy=appName&bAscending=true

So, one of the first things you need to learn about Linux is to STOP relying on MS Windows apps, and start learning how to use Linux apps instead.

I find it funny. You talk a lot about converting to Windows. Yet, your signature says that you use Windows. The point of the matter is that everything is already Windows, and for some things there aren't alternatives that come anywhere close. Or things that just can't have an alternative (like games).

Show me alternatives to games like Crysis or World of Warcraft. You can't find them, because no one makes games for Linux like this. Yeah, you can find a couple of decent FPS games that have good graphics, but most Linux games are just ****** 2D side scrollers or platformers. I looked into Linux Gaming for awhile, but never found anything worth not just using Wine and playing them.
