I have a bit old configuration... 3 years...
I'm buying new computer these days...
I wan't to save all form my /home partition on new hard drive, / new computer..
Since I wan't it to have dual boot, Windows 7+Ubuntu 9.04... windows just in case I need something... I'm alwways on ubuntu...

So I'was thinking to do it this way....

Old hard disk is 160gb, sata I, new is 500GB, sata II, I don't think sata 300 or old sata matters...

So I plug old hard disk to new computer, start put Ubuntu 9.04 live, start live, open sudo gparted, Make one 50Gb partiton unformated, one 20 or 30 GB .ext4 partion, all the rest form new hard disk, aprox 400GB as ext4...
exit gparted..
Make one folder on freshly formated 400gb ext4, named dachaarh, and in that folder I copy most of my home partition, music, hidden folders like (.opera, .firefox, .rhithmbox, and all other programs I use, .gnome, .themes, .fonts, and all else I need).. that will take like 5-6 hours, 60Gb over 100k files...
ShutDown computer, plug out old hard disk...
Put windows 7 cd, start instalation, install it on 50GB unformated, check to format as NTFS.. install and start...
restart, put ubuntu 9.04 installation again...
Go to custom partitioning, select my 20-30Gb partition as /, select 400GBext4 partition to be mounted as /home, but do not format it again...
at the end of installlation, I select same user name, dachaarh, ubuntu gives warning that there are already settings on home partition for dachaarh, do I wan't to use them, I say yes...
Start ubuntu, puf.. theme and fonts are the same, I download all the packages I need, and update sistem, probably arround 300MB, but that will take like 10 minutes on my connection, installlation of all those updated packages, along with kernel, will take longer, about one hour probably...

and I have all my favourite application, just like last time I used them on this computer... :)

is it good way, or what :)

my new configuration is gonna be based on intel.. I see that much people have problems with ubuntu/gnome and intel...

is this gonna be fine :
MB: Gigabyte GA-EP31-DS3L......................................
CPU: Intel E6300 DualCore Pentium, 2.80GHz.....................
RAM : 2* DIMM DDR2 2GB 800MHz A-Data..........................
GPU : VGA GeForce 9500 GT Leadtek 512MB/DDR3.......................
HDD : SATA2 7200 500GB Seagate Barracuda ST3500418AS...

because configuration is not gonna be changed I"m done with AMD... only ubuntu is gonna be changed, if problems with configuration, but I would realy love to still have ubuntu as my primary OS,after getting new computer...

thanks for any reply....
