View Full Version : [ubuntu] small upgrade question
December 23rd, 2009, 01:11 PM
i would really like to upgrade to 9.10 karmic but since the only internet access i have at the moment is mobile broadband (yes optus 3g), i can't :(
i know the first official release in october didn't support the huawei e620 usb dongles but newer kernels do. if i do an upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 NOW, will i be upgrading to the latest kernel or will it be original one so many of us were having problems with?

I have Karmic on my laptop and was unaware of any problems. I am using a Huawei E160G on the road and a DLink DWA-110 at home.

There's always the option to order a free installation CD from the Ubuntu store https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ but bear in mind that it may take a few weeks.
And 9.10 will have one of the latest kernel updates on it, and will update to the latest one with minimal download quota cost. But I sincerely say that, upgrade to 9.10 as it will be worth your while :P
Oh, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Oh and just so you don't fret... Apparently at first, the dongle won't work until you update Ubuntu/the kernels, so might wanna get your laptop onto a wired network or something other than your mobile card.
Got the bug from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/456662 and this was the solution https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/456662/comments/10 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/456662/comments/10)
Nice and easy :P
