View Full Version : Logged-in, but not when replying?

It happens regularly to me that submitting (the reply to) a message fails because the forum says incorrectly that I'm not logged in. I know that's incorrect, because trying to log in once more elicits a failure as well (wrong thread). In the end, I just back up to the web page where I composed the message (several times if need be) and submit the message again, and again if need be. This works most of the time, but sometimes the system complains about me submitting a duplicate message; and at other times, I just can't submit at all. There must be a better way to handle this then just closing the whole fscking browser down...

It happens in the Ubuntu 5.10 Support (GNOME) forum and its Desktop sub-forum; and in the Hardware Help forum and its Networking sub-forum.
Edited: it worked OK with this message, though.

I have experienced similar problem, usually when it has taken me a long time to compose the message. My solution: I type the first line or so, submit, and then go into EDIT the post.

I beleive its a "post timeout" thing for security reasons, If you post a quick reply all is fine, but if your writting a long post you may get "timed out" and have to relog-in.
Ive seen this feature in other forums, its purpose is to "auto log you out" if you leave so that you dont surf away and have your ID remain logged in, the reason is that a hacker could hijack your ID and wreak havok on the boards as if they were you.

I've never experienced any sort of timeout on these forums. I just keep my cookies.
