Sorry if this question is asked before.

I like the idea Ubuntu to become more more "independent" from Debian but the problem is that my download rate to the ubuntu repositories is very slow(3-5kb/sec).I am from Bulgaria and my download rate from mirrors and sites outside the country is like the number above, but Debian have several mirrors here and the speed goes 30kb/sec.

Do you think i will have big problems if i use the sid repos.

Yes, you'll have problems if you use Sid repositories.

There's no Ubuntu mirror in Bulgaria?

actually there is an:
bg.archive.ubuntu.com (bg=Bulgaria)
but my download speed from that repo is as if it's outside Bulgaria(again 4-6kb/sec).

I may give the debain repositories chance.

yasenov ubuntu is not debian. you will run into problems. if you can find someone here who has a working source list, and use it.

On a side note some people here who have been using linux for a long time, and know what can, and can't be used from a debian repo do use them. however you being a newuser should at all cost avoid any use of other repos but ubuntu's..

The packages have the same format, but use different toolchains and library versions. All the stuff is compatible at the source code level, but not at the binary level. Prebuilt binary packages are made for the distribution they were built for.

There are a lot of packages in Warty that you cannot run in Breezy, for example.

i don't have problems with my sources.list - i'm not that newbie but you convinced me not to use the debian repositories.

every mirror outside Bulgaria is counted as international download rate.

The problem is that i don't live in a big city(Sofia,Plovdiv etc.)There the speed goes rather fast(200 kb/sec and above).
