Could someone tell me WHY my User Password / Root Password is Failing Authentication, leaving my desktop PC in an unbootable state ? I'd like to at the very least, know either, a) what I have done wrong, or b) if someone is hacking my machine... Thanks in advance.

Don't know what you've done wrong being were not there. Try resetting the password: http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/resetpassword

1. You forgot your password.
2. You never knew your password
3. Input failure like a key not working on the keyboard
4. Caps lock is on

Lol ! None of the Above on Reply 2, but thanks for the ideas and link... I uninstalled Grub & asked for Grub 2 and Grub PC, apparently, Grub 2 does not want to load... and password is nixed, IS THAT WHY ? OR Does 'someone else' have my 'root' ? ? Thanks and Blessings ! :)

Even ALL Recovery Modes are requiring Authentication, so the psychocats link instructions will not be able to help me reset the p/w. So can I NOT have Grub PC ? ?
