Looking for recomendations on a cheap AGP card, range free to $75 I guess. Not sure just how much I'll get into PC gaming(console gamer), but I'd like to be able to at least.
OpenGL 2.0 is important for the new things being done for the GUI right? Stuff like this http://linux.slashdot.org/linux/06/02/22/1638228.shtml was making me think I sould get the ability to run the stuff.

dunno what a good one is, but if you're gonna be using linux then I think u should get an NVidia. My video card is an ATI Radeon 9500, which would probably fall into your price range(if you can find it anywhere), and it has softmod drivers to 9700 on windows, and its quite good I can run many games on high settings, but like I said for linux probably get NVidia.

nVidia. They actually care enough to supply good Linux drivers.

as the other's mentioned NVIDIA all the way. also your wanting to use Xgl just to give you a heads up, the minimum that fully supports Xgl is a Geforce 5200 if you use an nvidia card older than that, make sure that it supports "pixel shader" or video playback is terrible.

Coo, I was leaning toward nVidia anyways, but what cards from who do you recommend there's allot of variations on each chipset, any in particular you like?

Man, what? Anyway, I have GeForceFX 5600 and they're really cheap now. Runs great. Doom 3 and Quake 4 play surprisingly well with the new drivers.

6200 is in your price range but is a little slow for serious gaming.
For good gaming a 6600GT is still a value leader if you can find it close to $100,
but for less than $200, 6800GS will run any game at very reasonable settings including all the latest ones.
