I was just wondering if I am supposed to use the Desktop i386 image to install on a Dell inspiron 2200 Laptop.

You can use amd64, the 64bit version also, todays laptops are 64bit but I guess it doesn't make much difference. Unless you specifically need 64bit apps.

Thanks Darko. I just didn't know if there was a special download for laptops. Now another question. I have a external HDD that I installed Ubuntu on today. It will boot up on my desktop and I know that the laptop is compatible however it gives me an error when trying to boot. I believe the error lies within grub. I will make another post shortly with the exact wording of it.

Just use the regular image. Once installed go into synaptic and search "laptop" to find packages you may find useful.
