Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy Gibbon) was released on Oct 18th, 2007 and is no longer supported. It is recommended to upgrade to the current version of Ubuntu. Download and install Karmic http://www.ubuntu.com/ . If you can't download, ask for it https://shipit.ubuntu.com/ .

It is probably installing grub to the fist drive while the bios is told to boot the second drive. I have had that problem with multiple sata before.

try changing the boot order in the bios.

ordering the HDD's fixed it.
