logout one use autologin previous user - no password asked

I am using Ubuntu 9.10 and have created 3 accounts - all of them in use at the same time. I have normally been using the "Switch User" option to change user, but discovered that when I performed a logout of one of them, the previous user was automatically enabled WITHOUT entering any password.

Are other people experiencing this behavior? How do I prevent this?

I did try with only two users logged in. In this case I logged out with the one I performed the login first with - in this case it did go back to the login screen. Not sure what to make out of this - I am having inconsistent behavior.
