Ok I am new to Ubuntu and learning as I go.

I had multiple problems with my new installation, but solved most of them by scanning the internet and the Ubuntu forms.

I have got to major problems still, which I can find no solution to thus far.

1) The first time I start Ubuntu and I insert a data cd into it the cd will appear on the desktop and I can use it.
After about 30 minutes the cd icon on the desktop disappears.
After that I am unable to use any cds or DVDs in Ubuntu.
If I go to computer:/// I can see the cd/dvd drive, but when I double click on it nothing happens.
If I open and close the dvd writer manually nothing happens.
If I insert a new cd or dvd nothing happens.
This problem presents itself in Ubuntu 9.10 64bit and 32bit.
I am starting to think it is a power management problem by switching the cd functionality off, but I also found while installing a game that the installation just suddenly crash and the cd icon disappears.
This does not happen in my Windows XP installation at all.
I have even now completely formated the XP clutter and installed Ubuntu alone (64 and 32bit), but the problem still occurs in Ubuntu.
Another thing is that when the cd icon disappears then even the cd writer programs complains that I have got no dvd writer.

The only solution is to restart Ubuntu completely.
Logging off or Hibernation does not fix the problem.

2) USB access is very slow.
Again on Xp there is no problem.
This time however is seems that Ubuntu 64bit seems slower than 32bit, but 32bit is still very slow.

When copying a file to a USB 2 stick it starts out very fast.
About 20 to 30 megs per second for the first 100 to 300 megs.
Then suddenly it slows down to less than 1 meg per second, which will take forever.

Interestingly enough it only seem to happen with memory sticks and not external hard drives through usb.
Again these sticks I have been using and am still using regularly on multiple XP machines including this dual boot XP without a problem.

Any help will be appreciated.

I am trying to automate it for new installations, but are still learning that.
Tips will be appreciated.
I can help myself a bit in the terminal(Still learning).
I have got extensive JAVA programming background.
Would like to know more about creating script files.
Also when executing scripts the terminal sometimes asks a Y/N question.
How do I auto answer Y without user input.
The idea is to install Ubuntu standard on a client PC.
Then execute this script setting up all the options automatically and WOWing the client into submission.
O and do you know of command line parms for UBUNTU TWEAK ?

Thanks
Cobra

I will later when the document is more complete share it with everyone.
Hopefully automated.
