I looked all over to find out about Ubuntu and the new printer I bought (HP LaserJet P1006), to get a driver for it, and found this website mentioned a lot: http://foo2xqx.rkkda.com/
I tried to go to the site, but it won't let me access it. I was wondering if it is just my machine, or if it's down for anyone that tries to access it. I just need someone to tell me if they can load that page or not.
Also, if it won't work, does anyone know of an alternative site?
Thanks for helping!

Yes, I could access it.
If you still could not access it, I will upload it somewhere for you.

The link you posted eventually led me here:

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/install_wizard/index.html

Let us know if that doesn't work and someone can download it and post it elsewhere so you can grab it.

Yesterday and the day before I had 5 of my friends try to access the site, to no avail.
Once you all messaged saying it worked for you, I tried one last time and the website opened! I was so happy I gave out a girlie squeal (I am a girl after all). I also feel so happy that there is a place like this on the 'net where people genuinely just want to help. Y'all are FANTASTIC!
Thanks just for being willing!! I will update if this installed properly or not.

Okay. I followed the directions on that page exactly.
After, I went to System, Admin, Printing. Tried to add a printer. It finally showed the HP LaserJet P1006 in the list.
Everything was added smoothly.
But, when I go to print, it doesn't. At least I am no longer getting a message that pops up with "Error while printing," as I was before I could get the driver.

I shut down my terminal already. Thought I had it all down. If I need to find something from that session to let you all know what it said, you'll have to tell me how to find it. :)

When you add the printer, does Ubuntu find it automagically ?? I'm not sure what version of Ubuntu UCE is based upon, but that's the way adding printers usually behaves in Hardy and Jaunty so I'm guessing it would do the same in any later release.

No, it doesn't add it automatically. My other printers have been added automatically. *sigh*
I am using Ubuntu CE 7.04 right now. Still having issues getting it updated. Having a friend fix it.

So, until then, that's what I have to work with. Then, I will get to start this glorious process all over again. :) But, I need the printer now.

You could use latest live cd, just borrow from your friend.

I am sure you've already noticed my absolute ignorance, but I must show it once more. What is a live CD?
Are you saying I could have a friend download a new version of Ubuntu CE from their computer onto a DVD and then install it on my computer here at home?

I do not mean ubuntu ce live cd. If you only want to print, any live cd will do. Just run from CD and print what you want to print, do not install it.

But if you want ubuntu ce, you could also try the server version. It is live cd.
