I just got ubuntu onto my computer. I have windows on 100 gigs, and ubuntu on the other 60 gigs. I made it through that process and everything just fine, but now I cannot do anything within linux. My primary focus is to maybe get call of duty 2 running, and or steam (for counter-srike/counter-strike source). I downloaded wine, however I think I am lost as to what I am supposed to do after I have wine. I am a complete and utter n00b at this, so if you want to try to help, please explain as detailed as possible...thanks for your time.

Try this (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Wine?highlight=%28wine%29)
As well as search the forums for your specific problem.
You might find that there are several people that are trying to do the same or have succeeded in doing so.

curious, running Steam on Wine is very buggy at best from what I have researched. But I do hope you get it running and let us know how if you do ;)

Ok... slight explanation. I just partitioned my hard drive in an attempt to see if I could run solely linux. However, I have learned after doing all of this I am too much of a gamer at heart to fully switch to Linux. Atleast until linux gets more support. I do however like what I have seen so far with just ubuntu. I will probably use linux for everything except music and games at this point.

well the music part I can't see being any better in Windows, infact my favorite music player/organizer is a Linux only app, amaroK.
Games, yes unfortunately if you want the latest/greatest you have no choice.

well, I just recently bought an iaudio x5l, and this game with a program called Jetshell that I really have enjoyed... but I can't get wine to use it. Lol, I am apparently a parasite to wine because I simply can't get it to work successfully. It comes on and stuff but it never fully works. Oh well... for now I'm keeping both. I'll experiment some more and let you guys know how I finally end up.

I find that the best way to get wine working is to go to the wine homepage and follow there instructions for install wine on ubuntu, then from the winepage also download winetools, this will help you configure wine and install many nessecary components for wine, like windows installer, internet explorer etc, if you want to know more, let me know, il be happy to help, because i know the hell i went through to get it setup

You type it in Terminal. Go to Applications->Accessories->Terminal
Application.exe would be something like notepad.exe. So in Terminal you'd type:
wine notepad.exe

Look into cedega @ http://www.transgaming.com/ . Lets me play every game that I have on linux being Jedi Academy, Quake 3, Quake 4, IGI, AVP2 and many more! So for 5 bucks a month I get to lose all the headaches of windows and still get to play all the games
