View Full Version : [ubuntu] My system suffers from regular pauses...

I was planning on recording my desktop, but I suddenly noticed that my system suffers from continuing regular pauses, and they are really annoying. Every 3 seconds (approximately), my system freezes for about a quarter of a second. I can easily see it by dragging a window around; it is smooth most of the time, but the window gets stuck for that quarter of a second.

I have tried rebooting. I have tried closing everything except Nautilus. Even as I type this message, I can see my typing freeze periodically. Does anyone have any idea on how I could about diagnosing this problem?

I have an Nvidia 8500 GT. I am running dual monitors (1280x1024 each) in Twinview mode. I have the driver (version 185) installed.

Please help me. This is incredible degrading to my experience. I have been using Ubuntu almost exclusively for the past 3 years. I love it to death, but I'm going to cry if this freezing keeps up.

Does top reveal any abnormal CPU usage during this time?
