I have two computers that I'm running Hardy on and I absolutely have to have them networked. One of them being an HTPC and my only interface to it for the most part is a Nintendo Wiimote (as an IR pointer). I used to have them running Jaunty, but the update to Karmic broke MANY things, including networking. No matter what I did, I could not get Samba to work. Most of the time, I would open "Network Connections" and it would just time out.
After a bit of Googling, I found out how to remove Samba and use NFS instead, which in many ways is much simpler and straight forward. The best part about NFS though is how much faster it is than Samba. I used to average about 3-4 mbps between the computers over Samba, and now I'm averaging 30-40 mbps on with NFS. It never gives me the message that "Opening Network Connections, you can stop this operation by clicking cancel".
