hello All,

I am planning to build an Ubuntu media server that is going to be hdmi connected to my tv, and I would like to know what you get installing Mythbuntu, XBMC, or other media center distributions...

I can play a multitude of video files with my standard Karmic, I can add Xine for tv and tv recordings... what could I ask for more?

I am asking because my philosophy is "keep it simple, stupid"...

thanks for your comments,
-Gian

Mythbuntu is primarily for people with a supported TV tuner card. It will let you record programs when they are broadcast and play them back at your convenience. You can also watch a program "live," and pause it while you go and make a coffee, etc, then fast-forward past commercials to catch up. You can do your own replays on any program.

You also might want to check out VLC media player.
