I am fairly new to linux and totally new to Ubuntu. I am using the latest 9.1 Karmic Koala fully updated. So far i like it except for one thing. Everytime i try to install the propietary ati drivers and reboot the machine hangs on a blank screen after the initial splash. Nothing will kill the thing and I have to reboot. Since installing these drivers replaces the drivers that the system came installed with i end up having to re-install the whole thing to get my gui back to normal. I have tried multiple ways of installing these drivers and the ones from the ATI website and the same thing happens invariably. Any help in getting this to work as it should is greatly appreciated and I will supply whatever logs, readings, etc that you want to help solve this.
