I've read several posts re: upgrading to OOo2.0.1 from my current 1.9.x version. I have 2.0.1 on OS X, X window version and really like the better look. I read about adding to my sources list but Ithought that I would download Dapper and upgrade that way-justt OOo not my whole system. That would wait until the Dapper release version in April. However, when I use Synaptic with the Dapper CD loaded, I can pick upgrade OOo but synaptic wants to remove KDE and KDElibs which will ruin my KDE apps for use. Am I mistaken in this assumption? Would I just reinstall the KDE stuff?
Thanks

you can get your self in a mess trying to run bits of two versions of ubuntu.

if you are happy to do daily backups, not mind the possiblity of having to do a reinstall and put up with a few bugs, then you could try dapper.

it is getting fairly stable now as it is close to the feature freeze. if you can file any bugs you find then you could help dapper be a very stable system.

you could try a live cd and see how well that runs. if the live cd is ok then the install should be fine. (if you get https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/squashfs/+bug/31437 then don't worry, it works on the installed version)

Thanks for the info. I think that I'll wait for a stable release or when OOo 2.0 is available as an update for Breezy. I use Ubuntu for my critical work and don't want to cobble things up!

You should upgrade to 2.1. I did it with the RPMs the way explained in the blog mentioned above and it works fine. Many bugs have been corrected, especially for outline numbering that was not so good until 2.0.3.
