I've been looking around for a Counter Strike demo. The closest I've gotten is a 500 MB download of Steam, which I'm not sure how to use. Can anyone help me out?

have u got wine installed?

i dont think i've ever seen a demo about. but it is possible to install steam and hence Counter Strike 1.6 (or Source i guess). the steam install file is about 250kb, but once that is installed, it will still have to download all the CS files for you (about 350mb if i remember)

The 500 megs sounds about right, you have halflife 1 already? You need it to do CS.
This is how i got cs working 4 or so years ago:
1) Install halflife
2) Install CS

This was for windows though. :-k

I got steam and CS: source working in Wine although it's so absurdly slow I can't even play. ahh man one of these days. just updated wine though so maybe the new version can make it a little more playable. BTW I have open arena but can't seem to play any games cuz it keeps asking for a pswd. anyway know a way around that? I thought quake 3 and open arena didn't require a pswd anymore.

peace,
A
