I have been desperately trying to get WoW to function correctly on 9.10 with my Lenovo T60p but it appears that all is against me. Wine doesn't seem to function for it and there are always references to my Video Card. Every time I try to update the ATI drivers the video becomes shot or the update does not work at all. I heard about Cedega but from what I hear it only supports Nvidia Cards. They say that it does work with ATI but not the greatest. Has anyone with a ATI Chipset ever used Cedega successfully.

I have Cedega installed but as I said before, there is always SOMETHING working against me. I error out when I run it. It tells me that there was an error durring the attempt to download: HTTP Error 401: Authorization Required. I just want to know if I should pursue this to try to get it working or face the fact that I may not be playing a couple of my favs on this machine.

I have: ATI FireGL V5200 with 256MB. As far as a driver, I have tried with the stock drivers in Ubuntu, Then tried ATI Binary X.Org Driver and finally EnvyNG. None of these work for the distro locally. I remember with the earlier versions of Ubuntu (8.04), I was able to install a "proprietary" driver from the Hardware Drivers software but now when I open it, it searches to see if there are any in use and allows me to Enable/Disable if any but there is no way to install new drivers. Hmmmmm. Dunno.

I used Cedega years ago, & learned then that they offer a miserable service & their support is all but non-existent.

If you can't do what you need via Wine, try Codeweavers Crossover office/games demo.

Codeweavers are the prime movers behind the Wine project. It is where they get money to live on.

Their forums are helpful (unlike Cedega's) & the dev's observe the forums pretty closely, so you will get a response from them if it is appropriate.

You can't loose giving the demo a try. :) If you do need to buy Crossover, its pretty cheap too.

Thanks... I am downloading the 7 day Trial right now. I will try it out a little later and will let you know how it works out for me (I have my fingers crossed)!

WoW is still installing.. HUGE! Never-the-less it IS working better right now. A bit laggy in graphics but I still have some modifications to try. I like this so much better than Cedega. Let me play around with it some more before my 7 day trial expires.

Good news. :)

If you haven't already, take a look at the Codeweavers WoW forum (http://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/browse/name/?app_id=1185;forum=1) & the Tips & Tricks tab has a tip which may help you?

Even I, who can scarcely afford to, have supported Codeweavers, who, after all, make wine available to us all for free. Even better, their compatibility list will give a pretty good idea of what will work and what won't.

Cedega, by comparison, doesn't offer the user community anything for free. Makes supporting Codeweavers a no-brainer for me.

Thanks Handy! That is a great source of information! After installing the "BC" expansion on to my base WoW installation and a little tweaking it finally ran!! Hardly any lag at all. After I came back to it a couple hours later it again game me the same error but.... I am excited to know that if I keep tweaking it, I may get this! I will try again after I install my final expansion pack and will try again. I will update everyone as to what I did after I get the devil out of my system ;)

Looks Like I may be throwing some dough to CodeWeavers!

If you haven't already? Set up an account so you can pose your questions on the Codeweavers > WoW forum. I expect you should get good help, as WoW is such a popular game.
