Furthurmore, I cannot shutdown the running virtual machine because there is no machine window!

Would you care to expand on this a bit? I for one am not sure what it is you have or want.

You really need to give more information, but VirtualBox has a windowed mode and full-screen mode (if you installed guest additions). Perhaps you are in full-screen mode? Rt-Ctrl + F will switch between them.

No, there is no VM Window, clicking the show button does not do a thing.

I hate fullscreen virtualbox, I will never use it.

You know I have been using VirtualBox since it became public. I have never seen a show button. Can you either explain this better or at the very least take a screen shot and post that? Otherwise no one is going to be able to help you.

Seems to be working now that I reinstalled, sorry for the trouble.
