I wouldn't call a 160gb hard drive old. How old are you? My first hard drive was 500meg. (Well, actually it was my parents computer). Nevertheless that was OLD. If you had purchased a seagate hard drive it would still be under warranty.

I just recently purchased a seagate 200gb and it is under warranty until 2011.

It's smart to shop around for hard drives (even if im not smart).

Yikes! Your young enough to be my son. All I can say is your going down the right path in life by using ubuntu.

Keepup the good work.

Some drives got 3 year warranties on them, some have 5. You might wanna check if it's still under warranty, if it is you are in luck. If it's not, well I'm pretty sure it's dead.

lol 500mb, I barely remember having a 100mb one. I was a little kid at the time. Oh well, at least there were booter games, and the joys of floppy swapping...

Used to use an Amiga 2000 (!!!!) with a very small harddrive - with great success I might add.
Four words:
FOURTY MEG SYQUEST REMOVABLE

I seriously used to boot up on a 40 mB cartridge drive and it had LOADS of room!
Amigas were pretty darn cool, really. <sigh>
Miss my A1200. UAE just isn't the same... :-)

I remember paying $300.00 back in the day for a 50MB hard drive.

I was king of the block that day.

my first hdd was a 6gig that was back in 1998/1999 that I got my comp.
My grandad got me it for christmas was an alright spec for back then.

cyrix 333, 128mb of ram, 6gig hdd, 32x cdrom (i believe)

started late with computers I was 14/15 the first time I ever used a pc actually i was younger as my my grandad let me use his but that was rare I was usually on the BBC.
My granddad is like 84 now and still using a computer he actually knows more than the casual user which proves age doesn't matter
