I know this has been discussed alot, but reccomend me the best "mp3 player" that supports flac and ogg video is a plus but not manditory. I also want a big one, again as cheap as possible. Minimum of 8gb, and of course works on linux.

Thanks

Well, I just bought a sansa clip+, which is, however, pretty small (I need a small device for convenience) it supports all those formats and it's said to have an outstanding sound. It's pretty cheap, comes with 8GB, and you can use SDHC cards to expand it, so sky is the limit :D.

Besides that, I would go for an Iriver or Cowon.

Anything made by Cowon. Their D2+ is $129.25 on Amazon for 8 gigs, has ogg and FLAC support and also supports Linux. Their iAUDIO 7 isn't a bad choice either. 8 gigs for $102.99 on Amazon. I have a D2 myself and love it. Cowon makes the best Linux-friendly MP3 players ever. They sound amazing too. I have a pair of Ultimate Ears Metro-Fi 220s and it really brings out the awesome SQ of the D2. Not much is different between the D2 and D2+ besides the slightly higher price of the D2+, revised BBe enhancements, and other minor tweaks.

Sansa Clip+ here too! LOVE IT! I have a few iPods laying around but prefer the Sansa Clip+. I also prefer ogg. :)

It was recently on sale at Best Buy for 39.00 (4GB model). Another 45 bucks will get you a 16GB MicroSD card off of Newegg. So, 85 bucks isn't bad for a player with 20GB of space and FM tuner to boot.

Jake ;)

Newegg has the 8GB Sansa Clip+ for $59.99.

Radio Shack is selling the 4 GB Sansa Fuze for $44.99! Not a bad deal. Or did you already pick something up?

As lief you'd get the Sansa Fuze. It works with Linux, and is compatible with both of those formats.

However, don't just go out and buy any old one, because some retailers (such as Best Buy), will jack up the firmware and make it incompatible with non-Windows operating systems. Specifically, the technical details must say that it is compatible via MSC mode or by any other means.

Here (http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Sansa-Fuze-Video-Player/dp/B0015L451I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1259385049&sr=8-1) is the one I bought, and I'm loving it.

Come on... Does Best Buy really have the ability to screw with the Sansa firmware? I picked up my Clip+ from BB and it hadn't been tampered with. :)

I got the silver 8GB Sansa Fuze (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0015KYV3Q) from Amazon. It's currently going for $59.92 (that's a pretty good deal, considering the 4GB Fuze linked above is more expensive). It supports both ogg/vorbis and flac and works really well on Linux in MSC mode. Highly recommended. :)
