Just wanted to say hello and thank you for supporting this wonderful system. I have an iMac DV 400 that I was either going to have to install OS X or buy a new computer. Glad I found this site! After reading many of these posts I did a complete install (no dual boot !) and could not be happier. I may add some more RAM - currently have 192- but certainly more usable than OS 9.2. Now thinking about adding Ubuntu to my Windows box! I still have many questions, but at this stage of my life I am thourougly enjoying the challenge of working through them. I think I am in Linux to stay.

Welcome! This is a great community that I hope you will come back to and contribute to.
I also hope you will be pleased with all what ubuntu has to offer, also to PPC users.

Welcome!
Same machine here, and if it were not for this great forum it could have been a much more difficult switch, but now I'm a happy Ubuntu user. :-)

Welcome man, here you will find a great community ready to help you out, I recommend you to try xubuntu just add xubuntu-base and see what XFCE can do with your machine, if you want icons on the desktop just
sudo aptitude install rox-filer
and run it like this "rox -pinboard" rox is hard to use in the very beginning but after some configuration time you will love its speed and if you are still braver try the combo icewm-experimental+rox
it is what I use in my machine right now and I freak out how my mac can fly \\:D/

For now I think I'll stick with Gnome. It's not THAT slow. When I get more comfortable with Linux I may try some different things. Right now trying to get video working with Firefox. Followed the suggestions here for mplayer and Firefox ext and still no luck. Thats what I like about Linux though; there is some challenge involved.

Hey so then maybe it could be a nice idea to try warty or hoary in place of breezy or dapper as far as they will require less resources from your machine, then just use the backports to have the latest versions of your favourite apps ;)
anyway here you have a link of how nice can look a desktop with xfce (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1987/995/1600/2006-01-13-150229_1024x768_scrot.jpg) and rox (is not as light as icewm but still works really nice on low end machines) and if you have any doubt dont hesitate to ask me, its a screenshot from my computer before I moved to icewm-experimental, even faster :) and here you have how icewm look on my actual desktop (http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/1987/995/1600/icewmdapperf4.png)
