Yes, there was an announcement a few weeks back.

The gist is that there are no special problems because of a 64 bit version. Therefore queries will fall into one of the other categories

There is a prefix that can be used for 64 bit. The forum was closed a few days ago after a period of notice.

There is an announcement at the top of the forum.

There is no announcement there now - I had to do a forum search to find this thread here. Can a moderator put a notice on top of the sticky section? In that way, it will stay in place...

As per the reason for the closure of the 64bit subforum. I don't see this as necessary as 64bit architecture specific issues are very uncommon nowadays.

I've had no issue with any of those. I admit, the drivers one will be different for everybody, but flash and java I've had no issues with

worksforme is an annoying excuse for devs, moderators, admins to close a bug, forum, etc.

Now it is getting personal. Could you provide some links please. :)

Having a whoe forum for 64 bit issues might have been a good idea when it was still new, but it would be counterproductive to have it going still IMO. Because having a whole forum area for an architecture thats pretty well sorted could give he impression that its still in some sort of 'testing' phase.

You can still get help with your issues Psumi, its not like they have blocked any 64 bit discussion.

Any thread that's full of bumps or hasn't had a reply in a while (even from the op) and was never solved. People don't like to solve things that are either "trivial" for them, worksforme, etc.

I wasn't using it as an excuse, I was merely commenting on the fact that the issues that were most prevalent in 64 bit versions are no longer such show-stopping issues.

Exactly.

Now that 64-bit capable machines are a lot more prevalent and a lot of the wrinkles have been ironed out, there is less of a need for a 64-bit section.

I anticipate a day when the main focus here at the forum will be on 64-bit versions of our favourite distro, with the occasional support thread coming through asking how to get Ubuntu running on an older machine that can only run 32-bit software.

:) or my old Pentium desktop with only 64Mb RAM. I currently have a command-line version of Ubuntu 6.06 on it.

I am really not sure we are talking about the same thing. I have no problem that the 64bit forum is closed now.

However, I had to do a forum search and find this thread to find out that the forum is indeed closed - and that it isn't a weird issue with my permission, for example.

As the original announcement is gone, for whatever reason, I suggested to put an additional notice "This forum is now closed" in the sticky section of the 64bit forum, as a courtesy to the next confused user...

The announcement is still in that forum (see the image attached)

Too many people will not read what is right in front of their face. Might be the assumption (sic) that people never read directions and just dive into something.

Yes, you are exactly right. It's human nature really.

Reminds me of how Borderlands is an "RPG." *laughs uncontrollably*

You assume too much and are condescending on top of that.

When I did my search and when I wrote my reply, the only announcement in the 64bit-forum was "Happy Holidays".

While the announcement is back for now, I assume that the confusion will start again with a "Happy Easter" announcement or some such.

The Happy Holidays announcement didn't replace the 64bit announcemount - just stopped it being the first one - you'll find that the 64 bit announcement has displaced the malicious commands.

Once there's no more need for the 64bit announcement then the malicious commands one will once more be on top.
