I've setup a new computer in our home for our child to use and I'm trying to configure some new security features I haven't used before.

I've install DansGuardian on it, but I don't know where to find it or how to configure it. Does it have a GUI???? Because, I don't see an icon in any of the menus. I tried to run it with the sudo command, but I didn't get anything to come up.

Also, I have 2 user accounts on it for me and my child, and I only want my child to have access to certain programs on the computer. Do I have to put them in a separate user group, or can I set it up otherwise???????

This would be the first time i've set up more than one user on a linux computer.

Now, I know I can just remove any programs from the computer that I don't want her to have. I just wonder if I can completely configure her access with 1 or 2 easy settings and not have to put her in a separate user group.

Depending on how old and how adept your child is, couldn't you just remove the menu entries from the menu that you don't want the child to access? Just right-click Applications and select Edit Menus and remove the check marks for the programs you don't want the child to acces.

I know this is security by obscurity, but as the child gets older and it learns more, there may be no need to block access to anything.

I'll have to give that a look, thanks.
