View Full Version : [SOLVED] Lemur UltraThin won't use WiFi?!

Just bought a Lemur UltraThin for my daughter. It connects to our WiFi just fine (apparently), but will not actually download anything from the 'net. In other words, I can't use FireFox, Thunderbird or Upgrade Manager(!).

Do I need to (re)install another driver, return the machine to System76 for a refund, or what?

I'm thinking of retrofitting Jaunty, since that's what we use on our regular laptop. But again, is that even possible? Does LiveCD install out of the box onto System76 boxes? Or does it use proprietary drivers the way Dell does?

Hmmm...

Does it act like that on a *different* wireless access point? The wireless is tested before it is shipped, so I doubt there is actually a hardware issue here.

If you try to go somewhere in Firefox, what error do you get?

Could be a proxy issue.

Are your other computers getting access over the same wireless network?

Sounds like it could be a regular case of a modem overheating to me.

This is solved. Lemur Ultrathin requires Wireless-N, which means I had to update my ancient Qwest Actiontec modem to the latest model PK5000. Works fine after that. YMMV, but I also had to call my ISP to enter username/password for the ISP connection. This was a good move, because the old modem was set up for WEP, while the new modem defaults to WPA2-Personal. Thanks to System76 support for the help!
