I'm doing my best to live with PulseAudio and have no intention of uninstalling it at the moment. I play EverQuest 2 (EQ2) and have to run it with aoss. This isn't the ideal solution, though, as it prohibits using any other sound sources, such as Skype or Rhythmbox. What solutions are other folks using to run their Wine applications along with other sound sources?

Wine can work just fine with PulseAudio. If you are using 9.10, then try installing the wine1.2 package instead of the wine one. Or you could add its ppa to get the latest version.

The wine package in 9.10 installs the 1.0.x version of Wine, which in the majority of cases, has problems with PulseAudio.

You bring up another question, totally unrelated, people refer to wine 1.0 and wine 1.2 and I'm not quite sure what they're talking about. What I'm used to seeing is wine 1.1.18, 1.1.29, 1.1.33, etc. How do the different versioning systems relate?

Also, due to a regression that causes EQ2 to crash I am stuck using Wine 1.1.18 until it is fixed.

1.1.33 is 1.2

Thanks for clearing up the Wine versioning for me.

Considering that I'm not seeing a lot of PulseAudio issues in this forum, should I conclude that nobody else is having the same problems I am?

I Google for PulseAudio and Wine as well as checking the appdb entry on Wine HQ almost daily hoping that there is a solution besides using aoss. So far I haven't come up with anything usefull.
