I have a Dual 2.3ghz 1gb ram G5 and a very capable set of speakers. Whenever I set the volume on ubuntu above 70% the sound becomes overdriven (not even much louder!) to being barely audible. Is there anything I can do to circumvent this? Thanks, Eric

have you had a play with all the sliders in the volume control panel. right click (F12) on the volume slider to get it. you may need to go into the volume controls edit -> preferences to show all the sliders.
then you can try to find a ballance with out distortion
