you should file a needs-packaging bug in launchpad to get your favourite source debianised.
plus, you can always try yourself (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PackagingGuide/Complete#Packaging%20from%20Scratch)!
if your just using the program yourself you may be happy enough to use checkinstall on the source to get a pseudo debian package
