View Full Version : [ubuntu] Rename a mounted Network drive (Windows 7)

I have connected to my Windows HTPC running W7.
I have mounted my drives but the drives show up as follows:
D:192.168.2.5
F:192.168.2.5
Obviously pretty meaningless.
As these are network drives, right mouse clicking the 'rename' option is greyed out.
Is there anyway to rename these network drives i.e. D:192.138.2.5 = Music
Thank you
Lee :D

Depending on how you "mounted" the drives, the names are probably configured on the Windows side of things.

Hey there, thank you for the speedy reply.
I SMB:\\192.168.2.5 and all my Win 7 shares are listed :)

Please see the 6th link in my sig. Then you will be able to access the share via: places > network, or: places > connect to server. Then you can name them what you like.

I found your thread via Googling which is why I became a member on this forum. Unfortunately, being unfamiliar with the whole Linux scene I cannot get it working.
I'm as far as being able to see my HTPC (Win 7), but I get unable to mount.
I have turned the firewall off my PC. It does not even prompt me for a username/password like when I SMB:\\
Here is my thread here, but I have not tried the last suggestion yet.

Thank you again :)
