When I enable AC3 to SPDIF passthrough I get two problems. The first is that there is a pop or loud crackling noise when a recording starts playback. The second is that over the durration of the playback, the audio volume will randomly dip or drop out for about a half of a second.

I've found that if I just don't enable AC3 passthrough it's not a problem.

My system is an NVIDIA-Ion using HDMI out. It's running Mythbuntu 9.10. I'm not enabling aggressive sound card buffering and both my audio output device and my passthrough output device are "ALSA:hdmi".

Any help would be appreciated.

I wish I could help, but I'm having a similar problem -- it seems like any sound at 48000Hz works fine, but anything at 44100Hz is dead. I'm sure it's a PulseAudio or ALSA problem.

Anyway, I thought I'd just reply so I can keep an eye on your thread.

Best of luck.
